Road Trauma – First aid skills for road crash scenarios

Students 16+
This 50-minute demonstration is designed to raise young people’s awareness of road trauma and teach them practical first aid skills for dealing with a road crash before emergency services arrive. Helping to keep themselves, their friends and other road users safe and protected from injury or further harm. It’s a timely, practical follow-up to the powerful bstreetsmart experience.  After completion, students will be able to: 
Define what trauma is 
List the causes and contributors to road trauma 
Describe the most common injuries that result from road trauma 
Explain the correct first aid measures to manage these injuries and situations

First Aid Focus Sessions for Year 7-10

First Aid Focus is our free in-school program that teaches WA students vital first aid skills through fun, engaging, age-appropriate classes. Our Experienced Community Education Officers demonstrate the correct first aid approach, and students can practice these life-saving skills in hands-on scenario training.
50 minutes to 1 hour Practical Session
  • Focus on the treatment of asthma, choking, severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.
  • Students practice first aid skills.
  • Demonstration builds on students' prior knowledge of the Action Plan.
  • Reinforces message that any emergency, a first aider should seek the help of an adult and emergency service professional.

  • Focus on treating snakebites, sprains and strains, fractures, and dehydration in an outdoor setting.
  • Students practice first aid skills.

A great starting point for students, the course provides an excellent general grounding in first aid skills useful for work, home, sport and everyday life. Students learn appropriate first aid procedures and basic life support skills.

HLT31220 – Certificate III in Basic Health Care

Ideal for students interested in careers in nursing, paramedicine and the healthcare sector. This qualification reflects the role of medical response workers who provide basic health care services – including emergency first aid and transport support in pre-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.
