Course Overview:
This advanced clinical skills course equips healthcare professionals with the practical expertise to establish, manage and maintain both intravenous (IV) and intraosseous (IO) access, and perform safe venous blood collection in a range of healthcare and emergency settings.
Delivered by experienced clinical trainers with extensive frontline experience, this blended program combines comprehensive online learning with immersive, simulation-based practice using high-fidelity clinical equipment. • IV and IO Insertion: Perform intravenous and intraosseous device insertion using evidence-based, aseptic techniques.
• Equipment Selection: Choose and prepare the correct cannulas, IO needles, and blood collection materials based on patient and clinical needs.
• Venepuncture and Blood Collection: Conduct safe, accurate blood draws via venepuncture and through established IV/IO lines, minimising patient discomfort and ensuring specimen integrity.
• Complication Management: Recognise, prevent, and manage complications related to vascular access and blood sampling.
• Device Security and Maintenance: Secure, maintain, and troubleshoot IV and IO devices.
• Clinical Administration and Documentation: Safely administer fluids or medications and document procedures in line with best-practice standards.
