Clinical Risk Advisory Service

Building medical resilience into industries

At St John, we believe every employee should go home safe and that
robust health systems strengthen projects, not slow them down.

Find out how we can help

We partner with high-risk sectors: mining, maritime, logistics, and heavy industry, to build health service resilience from the inside out.

We do more than just ensure compliance — we collaborate with our partners to design practical and reliable systems for medical governance, clinical operations, emergency response, and staff wellbeing.

What is a Clinical Readiness Assessment

Having the right clinical governance in place is key to managing health risks at work. Our Clinical Readiness Assessment (CRA) helps you understand if your workplace health protocols are effective and up to standard.

The CRA gives you a clear picture of your clinical readiness, tailored to your site. It highlights any risks or gaps, and offers practical recommendations for improvement. We will guide you towards meeting NSQHS standards.

Why does my site need a CRA

A holistic understanding of health and safety protocols integrated to work as a model of care helps to:

  • Improve clinical care in the workplace
  • Reduce the frequency of Lost Time Injuries
  • Reduce the likelihood of clinical incidents
  • Mitigate incorrect provisional diagnosis on site
  • Reduce Return to Work times
  • Reduce large insurance claims associated with work related injury and illness
  • May contribute towards a reduction in insurance premiums

What's involved in a Clinical Risk Assessment

Using a three-phase approach, we comprehensively review all policies and emergency plans, clinical personnel requirements, poison management, clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), and equipment. We use the Swiss Cheese Model by James Reason to guide this process. This model shows how accidents often happen when small problems in different areas line up. Each part of your system is like a slice of Swiss cheese, and the holes are potential weak spots. If those holes line up, things can go wrong. Our job is to find and fix those weak spots before they cause harm. After a thorough briefing, we work with you to undertake:

Phase 1

Comprehensive desktop audit

Phase 2

Risk Assessment workshops

Phase 3

Written report and recommendations

Our clinical expertise for your project
