What Event Health Services provides

More than first aid – we can provide a complete medical response team ready for your event.

Qualified personnel who care
Our team maintains the highest standard of pre-hospital care. At every event, you'll have at least two trained team members, and depending on your needs, these may include Event Health Officers, Medics, Paramedics or Doctors.
Comprehensively equipped
We offer mobile first aid posts to complex medical suites. Each event receives a vehicle, along with essential medical equipment including a defibrillator (AED) and medications, to provide onsite medical care.
Experience at every scale
We attend all events from a school fete to Optus Stadium. This means we understand how to plan for different crowd sizes, venues, and conditions – and how to respond quickly when needed.
Access to statewide resources
As part of the statewide ambulance services, we have access to comprehensive resources and support systems, including specialised equipment and backup personnel.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Event Health Services

Do I need to provide medical care at my event?

Yes, accidents can happen to anyone at any age and at any time. Last financial year, St John WA Event Health Services treated more than 20,000 people at various events across WA. Events with more than 500 attendees require you by law to have a minimum of two qualified first aiders. You don't want a medical emergency to be your main event, so we highly recommend considering professional medical coverage.

How many medical team members do I need for my event?

Events with more than 500 attendees require two qualified first aiders. We do recommend confirming requirements with the governing body of your organisation; however, Event Health Services will undertake a medical risk analysis of your event. Based on this assessment, we will advise on the appropriate level and number of medical team members required, taking into account factors such as event type, attendee numbers, demographics, and venue layout. St John WA Event Health Services will conduct a medical risk analysis of your event and recommend the qualification level and number of medical team members required, based on factors such as event type, attendee numbers, demographics, and venue layout.

What's the difference between your paramedics and event health officers?

Our paramedics are active in the WA ambulance service with university degrees and can administer a wide range of medications without authorisation. Event Health Officers are qualified to Advanced Ambulance Care level - the same clinical scope as Country Ambulance Service staff - and can manage many medical conditions on-site, reducing hospital transports.

How much does event medical coverage cost?

The cost depends on the event duration, the number of staff required, the qualification levels needed, and the equipment requirements. As a charitable, non-profit organisation, we are committed to making professional medical services affordable for events of all sizes. Contact us for a tailored quote.

Do you use volunteers?

Yes, Event Health Services uses a combination of paid and volunteer team members. Many of our Event Health Officers are dedicated volunteers who love their experience at St John WA. This hybrid model allows us to support a large number of events across WA while maintaining high standards of care, and equipping trained first aid officers with the opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of their communities.

What types of events do you cover?

We cover all event types - from school fetes and community fairs to major festivals, concerts, sporting events, agricultural shows, corporate functions, and film sets. We've been providing medical services to the Perth Royal Show since 1903 and attend over 4,000 events annually across Western Australia.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for large events or during busy periods. Once booked, we'll conduct a risk assessment and provide you with a detailed medical plan well before your event date.
